thanks for your answer.
I just came back home and found your message: as my original file is quite big
I'll try to take a reduced copy of it which reproduces correctly what I meant.
AAMOF the middle file was an Excel .xls (not .xml, sorry for the error).
I gave a quick look at this .xls (as I can see it from OOo-1.1.4) and noticed
that all my original 'named ranges' are shown as 'absolute' (i.e. $X,$Y). Now
I've got to see how they were defined in the original .123 file (but I have to
use Win$oz for that ;( ...). Will revert in due course.

PS. Opened the original .123 file with OOo-1.9.82 but it did not show any of the
original defined ranges ...
