The are files for OSS emulation. The device should be visible in
/proc/asound/cards and in the output of "aplay -l", too.

What happens when you do run "aplay -D plughw:1 something.wav"?
What happens when you try to record?

ALSA ../alsa-kernel/usb/usbmidi.c:134: usb_submit_urb: -12
-12 means "out of memory" which is very strange in this context. But
this shouldn't affect audio I/O.
