Well my user is still called amavis, so I ran:

su amavis -c 'spamassassin --lint -D'

and got something this amongst other things:

[26938] dbg: diag: module installed: Razor2::Client::Agent, version 2.77
[26938] dbg: diag: module installed: IO::Socket::INET6, version 2.51
failed)
[26938] dbg: diag: module installed: Time::HiRes, version 1.87
[26938] dbg: diag: module installed: DBI, version 1.32
[26938] dbg: diag: module installed: Getopt::Long, version 2.34
[26938] dbg: diag: module installed: LWP::UserAgent, version 2.001
[26938] dbg: diag: module installed: HTTP::Date, version 1.44
[26938] dbg: ignore: using a test message to lint rules
[26938] dbg: config: using "/etc/mail/spamassassin" for site rules pre
files
[26938] dbg: config: read file /etc/mail/spamassassin/init.pre
[26938] dbg: config: read file /etc/mail/spamassassin/v310.pre
                                                ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So this is working as long as I don't use it from amavisd-new, which is
the puzzling part.

Thanks again,
.peter
