Biosopher,

pocketjourney does look like it could be really cool, pertinent
information that is well categorized all in one source could make
traveling better. No need to buy/carry around those little books
anymore. And access to what other travelers and/or locals think about
destinations is always a plus. It was time travel took the leap the
technology leap. It is definitely one of the application I would find
useful.

If the information given is correct (15+ judges for phase 2, and I had
8) only half the judges got to review each application. It is likely
then that there would have been 4 judges that reviewed both of the
applications. Perhaps some scoring was a comparison of the two but
from my understanding each application was supposed to be judged
purely on its merit. However, the judges are human so I am sure
consciously or subconsciously it could have played a factor.

I don't know how appropriate it would be for me to comment on Golf
Play. It might be taken as sour grapes considering it won and I did
not. I can tell you I approached my application from what appears to
be a different angle. At the outset I thought about making an
interface that was more complex, but based on the feedback that I got
(both from showing golfers the application and from golfers that use
competitors applications) made me realize that people don't want
something complex and don't want something that takes too much time
away from the actual golf game. Hence I designed my application with
the focus being the user and not the challenge.

The challenge was merely one way to get the word about TeeDroid out.
Winning would have been nice with all that it meant. But I did not
stop development while waiting for the results instead created the
website and hooked it into the webservice. I have now moved on to
porting TeeDroid to other platforms. This was the plan all along since
waiting for Android phones would be too risky and no sure time frame
on when they are coming out. I am not too concerned since I did take
the step of getting a patent filed on TeeDroid. It is always a plus
when you are a startup to protect your ideas, once you go public you
have to deal with copy cats.

Of course porting the application to other platforms does mean
changing the specs a bit, each platform has different capabilities.
Having written mobile software before I have to say that Android was a
pleasure to work with. I think the Android versions of a lot of
different software will probably be superior to versions running on
other platforms. That does not mean there is no reason to do the
ports though. Look for TeeDroid coming out on other platforms soon.

Good luck with the next round of the competition,

Finn
