Any app that is popular enough is going to find its way to pirate sites pretty soon, and the LVL is (unfortunately) completely inadequate to prevent that. So why risk the goodwill of the people who have actually purchased the app, but adding in code that has repeatedly been shown to have these kind of issues, to inconvenience the people who won't buy your app under any circumstances? Anyone who is stupid enough to download potentially harmful cracked apps in order to save a couple of bucks, is unlikely to be the kind of person who'd ever pay for them.

There is a lot of truth in this statement, but what I'm wondering about is:

Google is well known for hiring the best of the best of the best (see Men in Black, part one) and paying them very well.

How come these issues keep coming up and not getting fixed?

If the anti-piracy protection was worth something, then ... sure. But as long as it is apparently so easy to get around, what is the point?
