Completely agree. I'm rather surprised at how quickly people are dismissing this store, though perhaps the people that are going to give it shot don't want to bother commenting. Considering how much bitching, whining, and moaning goes on around here with regards to the Android Market, I would think most developers would whole-heartedly support what would arguably be the most viable alternative to the Android Market. I definitely don't like the sound of "we get to set the price", but considering the first year is free it seems worth at least trying it out for that first year. If you even just break even you can still reap the benefits of more exposure. You can bet Amazon is going to be promoting this new store, coupled with less competition and one would assume no spam, your chances of getting visibility is exponential compared to the odds of getting "featured" on the Android Market. The marketing benefits alone are probably worth the initial effort. As far as "wasting time supporting another store" - if you already have an app and all the other promotional material for the Android Market, the "effort" is going to another website and uploading basically the same stuff a second time. Considering how broken the Developer Console usually is, I'd bet you'd end up wasting more time fighting with that "tool" than you would uploading to Amazon. Also, as users, this will allow us to browse and buy apps on a website - amazing 1990s technology that the Google Market interns have still not figured out despited touting the feature at Google I/O however long ago. Maybe this incredible innovation will be just the kick in the pant Google needs to make the official Market Website something more than the joke it currently is. Ultimately, this is competition for Google - for both users and developers - and it's about time. They'll have to step up their game in the Market end of things we'll get to reap the benefits either way. Go Amazon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TreKing <http://sites.google.com/site/rezmobileapps/treking> - Chicago transit tracking app for Android-powered devices -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
