I think it is a very significant announcement. From my point of view, it is not as much as that there is a new "app store" but that it is backed up by Amazon which has awesome reach and global recognition. That is what might tilt people towards it. I also believe that it will be sometime before each of us can figure out whether it is really worth paying $99 per year. But if anyone can have a shot at building a marketplace with traction besides Google/Apple/MS, it has to be someone like Amazon with most of the technology already in place and then some. Hmm.. lots of disruption..
