What happens if you push a new mp4 file? Can you see the file doing "adb shell ls -l /sdcard" ?
For the file to be detected, did you try restarting the emulator? For new formats to be detected by the mediascanner, you need to start from frameworks/base/media/java/android/media/MediaFile.java.
