c3x00 support iwmmxt instructions, so decoding video should be probably 
faster there.

As for bvdd, I suggested my help in adapting Nokia 770 optimized software
scaler (it is used in maemo build of mplayer) to use it with bvdd long ago 
and more than once, but nobody seemed interested. It is not much work, but I
don't have zaurus myself, so I would need someone willing and able to compile
and test mplayer on this device. But this will only help in processing
arbitrary video resolutions (useful for nontranscoded video). If nonscaled
video (or 2x scaled by hardware) is still slow, that will not help much.

BTW, when transcoding video, both GMC and QPEL are bad for performance.
B-frames are good as they allow easy framedropping.
