Man, it's a bit flamey in here.

/me dons asbestos suit

Yes - there are a whole lot of gui apps, quite likely a majority, which
won't run well on a mobile handheld without a panning virtual screen. I
have expressed a few gripes here myself about apps on the Angstrom feeds
such as Abiword and Gnucalc.

But there are plenty of existing gui apps which run just fine on mobile
devices. For instance, links-x11 which is so far the overall best and
most usable web browser I've seen in the Angstrom environment.

Also, one of the advantages of X is the sheer number of GUI frameworks
which are based on it. Developers writing gui apps have the choice of
gtk[+], qt, Xaw, wx, tk, fox, fltk etc, and will usually choose one or
two to suit their own tastes and way of thinking.

Each gui framework has its points of appeal and revulsion - what
satisfies one programmer will piss off other programmers. Qt is no
exception, it has its devotees and its detractors.

So to have a device which locks out all but one gui framework risks
deterring a lot of developers. Many folks when confronted with a qt-only
architecture will be tempted to take their creativity and labour into
other arenas.

Hmm, I notice an xqt and xqt2 in the OE dev tree. How hard would it be
to have Opie using that? Is it just a matter of on-device configuration,
or would it tend to break Opie?

Cheers
Dave
