There are already servers available that can serve DNS directly from MySQL or Postgres. They are not nearly as fast as a dedicated DNS server that uses a specialized static database. And unless you've got a really huge amount of data (tens of thousands of records or more), you can create the static database from a SQL database very, very quickly.
Or for instance several hundreds of thousands of records in under 8 minutes (from oracle using pl).
