my question involves the Apple II Family. Is the Apple IIGS the "Top Dog" work horse of the group, or is the Apple III deserving of high honors??? Or is one of the earlier models able to do more with available software ie utilities, education, and entertainment. Last but not least are there any online or mail order sources for hardware, software, and accessories??? Thanks Doug

The GS was the last of the Apple II computers and, being the 16-bit member of the family, could do more than the //e or //c(+), including running most if not all of the 8-bit software native to the e and c. There's still a lot of us out here tho that enjoy using the 8-bit machines.

Ebay's a good place to start looking for software and some hardware, but you might want check out: http://www.wbwip.com/a2web for their classified section, and links to other sources. http://www.a2central.com has a lot of info available, plus the Syndicomm store will have a lot of software for sale. For storage, I'm a BIG fan of the CompactFlash for Apple II device (a solid-state hard drive in my 20+ year old //e!) : http://spudboy.dreher.net/CFforAppleII Then there's the ftp sites ftp.gno.org (Trenco) is a good place to start--all the software there is certified freeware. Oh--and this list of course. :)
