you wrote that you installed arangodb from source. i.e. you have executed make 
install? if there is no arangod under the location, you have not installed 
arangodb as you say. 

could you please take me through the steps your have taken so far. are you 
sure you want to use your own compiled version? there are beautiful 
packages for many linux distros on our download page.
