I would be interested in hearing if, and how, you are able to resolve this problem. We ask libraries not to send us grayscale or color documents via ARIEL for the very reason you state - our patrons are not able to view the documents when they are posted. We have had this problem for as long as we've used ARIEL and we've never been able to identify the source of the problem. Prospero and some other program I forgot the name of don't seem to be able to handle some color, grayscale or longer files. I'd have your IT person or persons investigate your patron pick up server. If you have had no problems before, it is possible that with the end of the semester, if your patron pick up server also does other tasks, the server is getting overloaded.
