Why would re-installing a JRE solve the problem? It's a javascript error, is it not?
IE has a wonderful feature where by it can run an older version of JS than the version number IE reports. Have you right clicked on the mshtml.dll file and compared file versions? 'Access denied' errors in JS can be generated by a number of things, and one of those things that sticks in my mind is trying to focus a hidden field (in IE only).
