I've been testing e-mails on dev by just looking at the entries on the AR System Email Messages form - works perfectly, and no messing around required on config or other forms. Works perfectly ....
But some have said you should restart the e-mail engine if you make config changes? From the AR documentation, its supposed to periodically check the config and adjust accordingly? Obviously this can be switched off, but I'm sure its enabled by default. It also adds the original "To" to the subject so I can see who it originally was supposed to go to. But, as Sharon II points out, you can simply look at the "AR System Email Messages" entries to see what email would have gone out, so most of the time we just leave the development mailbox disabled.
