You are correct, and maybe I wasn't totally clear but I'd never advocate giving
write access to anyone, and I'd also never turn over the ARAdmin password
either. The other danger in even giving DB level access to end users is that
they could write queries that cause locking issues and such, causing
performance problems and possibly even errors if Remedy tries to write to a
record that the user already has locked in their query.

** Reminder::
This would be a bad practice to give out Write capability to the user..
This is the reason for the AR odbc connector, Read only.
Which is more than likely going to stick around (somehow). I would think

I'm pretty sure that BMC Analytics uses the ODBC drivers, and even if they were

that can access the database and know how to convert the dates, as well as
manually translate the integer values to the text values on enumerated fields.

I forgot the fate of ODBC driver use, though it was delivered with the
user tool in the past. Some of our users have liked that for logging in
from Excel where they can manipulate reports in a familiar way. Perhaps
it's an option against the newer ARS? (If the users didn't necessarily
feel the need to be "in Remedy".)
