I've had a thought. If there's a space at the end of a JVM option, id
"-Da=b " (without the double quotes) in the configuration tool, the JVM
may do what you witnessed. I recall something similar when recording a
JSS video.
I see you've given up and used v8, but thought I'd share this for
completeness.
