Like I believe skip said - go to Italy. I've been there. Old old
crap from what these transcripts - sure - they're tourist
attraactions - more so then the casino or CH. Go to greece. We were
there, trying to figure out - were these amazing structures actually
destroyed in wars or just perhaps - never finished? That seems to be
the logic here.
There are countless buildings around the world that are not cost
effective to save - it takes someone with the chutzpah to save it -
without looking at the bottom line. Government plays a huge role -
as would a philanthropist. But since for now there seems to be
neither capable of seeing of a need or the knowledge to find the $.
True the Hall drained the city - but here again, over the years -
greed competed against business interests. Greed and inexperienced
management, lack of any kind of planning, inability to get out of
its own way - all contributed to the downfall. Blaming the riots is
truly so old - it beyond belief. How many communities who suffered
riots still reflect upon it? the got screwed with the failed
Springwood ave deal, have lost a couple countless years on the BW
due to greed and who knows what else, lost cookman ave redvelopment
in early 80's because of greed and the list goes on.
