God forbid we should save a theatre in this city.

Bronx Theater's Interior Declared a Landmark
By TIMOTHY WILLIAMS
The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the interior of
the refurbished Loew's Paradise Theater in Fordham a city landmark this
week, calling it "one of the most amazing spaces in New York City." The
landmark designation for the nearly 4,000-seat theater comes only seven
months after the Italian rococo building on the Grand Concourse was
reopened. The building's owner, Gerald Lieblich, who bought the theater
in 2003 for $4.5 million, has declined to say how much he spent on the
rehabilitation, but a previous effort to fix the theater ended after $1
million was spent on gilding alone. The exterior of the 1929 building
was declared a city landmark in 1997.
