Tom, I can't help liking you no matter what nonesense you write.
While you may know a lot about AP's history, you appear to care
little about saving any remanants of its past, or demanding that new
development on the waterfront respects that history from a design
perspective. You have called not only for demolition of the Baronet,
but the Casino too as well if I recall correctly. Your stand on
Tillie, Palace Amusements and the Carousel House are well known, and
you welcomed monster truck races in Bradley Park.
Maybe you know more of AP's history than Werner. Maybe you have more
old postcards and photos. Maybe you can tell us where the popcorn
was made. Maybe you can spin a better yarn than Werner. But what you
have not done is what Werner has repeatedly done - stood up for the
architectural integrity of this city; told the Council (your old
schoolmates) when they were treading the wrong path, and ultimately,
attempt protect the historic tapestry of this city. History to you
is something of the past; something dead, only to be viewed through
nostalgia and sepia tones. That is not being a historian. To Werner
and other historians of his ilk, history is something alive that
connects the past to the present.
