I have a lot of friends/family who work in various Monmouth County School systems and this has been a hot topic with us lately
In theory its a great idea to close our schools, its a huge waste, results are terrible etc etc The problem with this is that no district is going to be willing to take our kids into theirs. Its not even the BOE's that feel this way, its the taxpaying parents in these districts. A lot of parents around eastern monmouth county have been voicing their opinions over the last couple years to their BOE's So my question is, what do we do when no one will take them? Leave the schools open? Mario - can you shed any light on this? Any opinions? In regards to Abbott.....nevermind reducing the funds, just rid the state of the system completely, I have not come across a successful Abbott school district yet......anyone know of any successful Abbott stories? Your last paragraph was excellent. Start reducing funding for Abbott Districts. Kind of like what Christie wants to do. when taxpayers that live in a town pay taxes on their school, maybe things would change. I'd guess that if you figured it out, more renters then property owners send children to school in AP. Just a guess. So what does that have to do with it? A tenant doesn't really see their property tax bill and how it's broken out - school, muni, county etc. A tenant "just pays rent". The landlord gets to look at the tax bill and hope that with a mortgage, insurance and upkeep that the rent (that seems high to the tenant) covers the nut. And another guess is that most landowners in AP never really saw a real tax bill - that is one where you pay 93% of the cost of operating your schools - not 7% of the costs.
