Interesting situation in Meghalaya - the state is
close to bifurcation with the Garos and the Khasis
fighting over the State Education Board:

As usual, the entire state is held captive to one
body, KSU - looks like they continue to have goons as
their members. Interesting also the fact that Paul
Lyngdoh, currently a Cabinet Minister, was the chief
of KSU and goon extraordinaire when he was chief.
During his times, the KSU's call for a bandh evoked
way more fear than perhaps the army's flag marches.

That the situation is taking a turn for this is no
surprise - the politics of parochialism finds its
natural endgame. Majorities (or the modest majorities)
having evicted small, defenceless minorities are now
going after their erstwhile brothers - yes, never mind
the fact that they are also sons of the soil. Similar
tensions along tribal lines are a regular feature in
Arunachal as well as the other tribes try to vie for
political dominance over the Adis. Even in Nagaland
fighting erupts ever so often between the Aos and
others.

I guess the whole thing will come full circle when the
Muslims will take up arms to take their share of power
and fulfill their destiny.
