  That idea probably came from me...

  In the early days of my work with Soekris systems, I had several
boxes with 2.5" IDE drives scattered around.

  Some of them were IBMs but most were Fujitsu (that was what Soekris
was bundling at the time).

  It's far from scientific but I can tell you that I ended up removing
and redesigning the sollution because there were so many drive
failures.  I don't know if I had a bad batch of drives, if there were
some environment circumstances, etc but I can tell you that it scared
me away from 2.5" drives in general.

  Some of the newer servers from big name manufacturers do in fact
have 2.5" IDE drives in them.  Most of these are SATA but the
underlying drive mechanism is probably the same as their PATA
counterparts.  I'd like to think that these drives are more reliable
than the ones I had a few years ago...
