Hi,

I just updated french translation for 2.4.

I joined po file in this email.

Can you review this ?

Thanks.

First of all, thanks for the typo which has already been corrected: https://github.com/audacity/audacity/pull/560 Thanks James for the quick merge.

As for the rest of your proposal, there are several places where I voluntarily leave things that may have appeared untranslated to you, such as line 1624. The reason I leave it like this is that a translation doesn't add anything because it is exactly the same as the original version. There is a feature in the translation system that when something is not "translated" (msgstr ""), then the original version is used. This makes it easier to maintain in the long run by leaving this as I did, because if the original string is changed, there is nothing to do in the translated string. So I'm sorry to tell you here that you did a lot of work for nothing for all this kind of translations that you thought were missing (and that represents the majority of your proposal).

There are other types of translation proposals you made that don't seem to improve the current translations, or even degrade them for some of them (for example directory/folder, or replace ' characters by ' characters, or replace "Sample Edit" by "Sample Edit" for the translation of "Sample Edit").

I also see that you have moved some shortcuts (some "&" characters in a word), and this requires to check one by one that they are functional because if 2 menu items are marked to be called by the same shortcut, then only one will be functional. If you see one or more of them that have a real problem, then send it back to me here and I'll be happy to validate it and fix it. As it is, I prefer to leave the shortcuts as they are because they were functional the last time I checked.

Feel free to talk here about translation(s) that you think could be improved. I'm happy to change when needed to be changed since even if I think that the French translation of Audacity is in a pretty good shape now, there always can be some naughty typo hidding somehwere (like the one you found) or possible improvements.

Thanks for the error you spotted, which is now fixed and will be part of the next release of Audacity! This is really appreciated.

Musically,
Olivier
