Re: VGStorm Presents Manamon, a new fully featured RPG!
How the hell did you find Vibragen at that level? I've never seen one in the wild. Recobrah, yeah, but not Vibragen.

Aaron, you have a point. Many bosses are unique, like multiple targets and stuff. But again, the main conflict here seems to be pokemon vs. the rest of the world.
In a pokemon game, there are bosses which have pokemon you haven't seen, and very rarely bosses with pokemon that have moves they shouldn't have. They're usually harder for it. Sometimes they have pokemon that have evolved despite being too low level for it, which poses a greater challenge. But you never, ever have a boss that breaks mechanics. Once a pokemon battle, always a pokemon battle.
And I know that Manamon isn't pokemon, but here's the rub. In thousands upon thousands of regular and trainer battles, the game plays almost identically to pokemon with some type differences, balance dif
ferences and the like. And then every so often it really, really doesn't.
Put bluntly, my opinion is that these should be done away with. It's a pokemon clone (and I don't mean that disrespectfully)), so the general tactics which work in one battle ought to work in all battles, at least to some extent.
I, in particular, want said pokemon clone. That's what I'm interested in. If I want gimicky bosses like you'd find in Final Fantasy, I'll seek out a game like Paladin, which is a little more toward that style. Or Entombed, which while buggy provides some party strategy.
But when I play manamon, what I want is one-on-one, two-on-two and up to six-on-six combat.
But I'm one person. Maybe a bunch of people will get to this point and think these are great ideas. Maybe your beta testers did. I just don't. That's my opinion, and it's a firm one, but it's back to the drawing board for me.
I would be totally
okay with this boss having attacks no other creature has, even if they're powerful and dangerous. I'm okay with this boss having good stats, to a point anyway. I'm even okay with him being immune to status. But he has more than five moves, is immune to status, will fix his stats if they are dropped, heals every round and has hundreds of HP. That is way, way, way too many advantages for one mon to have.
I trust he can never actually be caught and fought with. If he can, you've just totally shot the balance of the game straight out the window.

No, I have not beaten the game. I'm not too terribly far off, but I haven't beaten it.
