mossier, random situations are a big part of the game, yes. It's a rogue-like, and some of this, like initially unidentified items, are pretty much the way the genre works.
I'm wondering about save games too, as there seem to be some bugs involving them mentioned in an earlier post.
Generally, the way a lot of these games play out is that you have to learn tricks and occasionally try out an unidentified item in order to make progress. Sometimes things are risky, but this game seems to try and avoid instant death without any warning.
