Yes, an audio interface is recommended for latency repairs, seeing as they will not be a result of the keyboard, but instead of the audio device as Flackers said.
A temporary or secondary solution for this is a software called ASIO4All. I have had used this as a saving grace several times over. It turns your ordinary sound device into an ASIO Driver, and if you have multiple outputs, you can actually route the ASIO4All to send to a second set of outputs on your card, so your screen reader and your studio audio can be routed out two separate sets. This is if my memory recalls, but always best to have two separate audio sources for studio setups with screen readers.
