Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

For the Linux issue, I think the reason people don't develop many games for Linux is purely because Linux seems daunting (and is different from all the others). It can also seem incredibly hard to use to someone who's just started learning how to use it, and it doesn't help that whenever newbies ask about it they get responses with dirty ass hacks or 10000 different suggestions on what they should and shouldn't use and how app 4500 or 8500 or 9999 is better than app 6666 or 5555 or 7213. Of course, considering that the terminal is integral to success on Linux, that doesn't help at all either. On windows and Mac the terminal is more of a side note thing, not really relevant to the usage of the OS and a user can use the OS perfectly fine not knowing a thing about it, and not even knowing it exists. On Linux, that's different -- to do anything interesting on Linux you need to use the terminal. Which is fine and dandy and all for advanced people, but not for newcomers who aren't programmers, sound designers, or advanced to begin with when switching to Linux; i.e. a newbie who is just your average oe gets told into Trying Linux -- they'll get lost very, very quickly. If that same average Joe were to try Mac though, it wouldn't be as daunting.
Add to that the fact that Linux (I don't think) is seen by much as a "gaming platform" and you've got a mess. There aren't many people who would happily tell you, "Yeah, I game on Linux all day with no regrets!". Linux just isn't seen as a gaming platform despite the fact that Steam is available for it. I don't think there are many games on Steam available for Linux either, so that doesn't help things.
