Re: preparation regarding copyright
The way copyright tends to be enforced on any other forum in the known universe is like this. BTW. This is how I'd handle it if I ran a forum.
If your game contains assets such as sounds or images from other projects, that is on you. A forum will remove the offending material if a take down request is made.
However. File sharing is a completely different animal, and you can't compare the two.
It also comes down to this. Using the extra life sound from Mario brothers when you get a new high score in your brand new Audio game Called Fluffy and the Invasion of the snuggle monsters is not going to cost a company like Nintendo any profits, but passing a website that has every Mario Kirby and Zelda game will potentially cause a loss in revenue which is what companies tend to care about. The all or nothing approach is just ridiculous when it comes to this concept as it's not enforceable and turns the moderation team in to a team of storm troopers.
I suppose you should all be glad I am not an admin as there would not have been weeks of hemming ad hawing. it would have been very simple.
if you are posting something for the express purpose of subverting copyright such as posting seasons of TV shows, music albums, rom dumps of video games ETC, then there's a problem. If you're game has a clip of Homer Simpson saying Woo Hoo then what ever. Maybe it's a good thing that I have not been brought back on the team as I imagine I would have ruffled tons of feathers. Frankly I couldn't care less.
One more thing. If you want to point the finger of blame at anyone for the copyright discussion I'm guilty as charged. This has been one thing I have pushed for even since day one of me being a moderator. So feel free to turn your cross hairs on me. I couldn't give two craps less.
