Re: BGT multiplayer game a lot of ping client disconnect

@23
No one in this community should really care about extraction of sounds, frankly.  The only reason BGT has "solved" this is by being obscure enough that no one has bothered breaking the encryption and publishing how yet.  The rest of it is solvable with pyinstaller or py2exe or cx_freeze or any of another few lesser-used options.

Everyone will have much more fun if they just realize that clones and stuff are actually kind of a complement while at the same time rarely if ever being better than the original, since the people making them are cloning for lack of the ability to do something of their own.  Obviously code and asset theft is a problem but when you're in a community of teenagers that's just going to happen, and one of these days BGT's encryption algorithms will be broken by someone motivated and that will be the end of that (it shouldn't be hard; I have considered doing it to make a point before, and I don't know how this hasn't happened, but nonetheless somehow it hasn't).

Resources:

A good high-level overview of the approaches, with some notes on how to handle physics.

A game tutorial in Python, with a lot of networking info.  That's old unfortunately, and if I recall uses Twisted (which adds some complexity), but as I recall this is a good overview of a lot of things.  When I talk about applicable sighted gaming tutorials, there you go.

a bunch of resources on everything but networking.  Kind of off topic, but while I'm digging through my bookmarks to find stuff, I might as well list it.  Covers all sorts of things from basic game patterns to AI.

Something from my new job, Beej's guide to network programming.  For those wanting to know what's going on at the lowest level of programming and how the OS interfaces work.  Also goes into TCP some if I recall.  I knew half of this before I read it, and it's kinda advanced and not game specific, but I've been programming for 10 years, professionally for like 3 or 4, and this still taught me things.

I really thought I had more than this, but I guess I didn't.
