I'd not recommend using bit torrent, in Britain at least you can get in trouble for using bit torrent programs, although practically speaking your chances of getting court are pretty nominal.
I'd suggest someone who owns some space just upload some abandonware games as Thomas has done on his site. Though to be honest I don't really see the need for keeping around all these broken old alphas and past versions of currently available games anyway.
