Servers for old mainstream games go down all the time, and most of them don't have user hosting options.
Sure it sucks, but most legitimate mainstream gaming websites still don't allow piracy of any kind.
So I'm not really sure what makes us special?
There is no question that They did a shitty thing by not making it possible for us to play after the company closed it's doors, and maybe they had some decent reasons for it or maybe they didn't, but that doesn't change anything legally.
