I don't think that people are trying to crush your spirit for developing games, even if some of us are being more blunt about it than others. That wouldn't help anyone.
Instead I believe they are trying to redirect you into a smaller project in order to avoid seeing you get hurt and possibly quitting the scene early after giving your self way too big of a task right away and having the community come down on you.
I've seen devs in this community get seriously stressed and depressed, struggle in school, lose friendships and give up on coding all together because they jumped into the deep end of audio game creation too early. I just don't want that to happen to you that's all...
Please genuinely ask yourself why you really want to do this. Is it for the joy of bringing your own ideas to life regardless of what anyone else thinks about them? Or is it to get praise or attention from the community by providing your hard work. Either one can end up in ruin if you aren't emotionally mature enough, but the second one is far more likely to cause you problems in my experience.
