Re: Uncle! Yosemite it is, then.
Just a few mostly related thoughts I can't help posting.
I don't own a Mac, so can't comment at all on OS X; I've only used it a few times and not for web browsing. I've used Safari a bit on my phone running iOS 7, but found it incredibly frustrating and haven't touched it in a very long while. My primary laptop and desktop are dual-booting Windows 8.1 and Arch Linux (with the evil, evil Systemd), and I've been trying to transition completely to Linux with Windows in a VM. The problem is that no matter how you look at it, web browsing is much, much more convenient with NVDA under Windows than it is with Orca, despite all the progress they've been making. So I get lazy and still boot into Windows most of the time. I have another laptop running just Linux and do fine on it, it's just a bit more frustrating to use; it's definitely getting better though as Orca is updated.
Every time I have a new installation of Windows, I h
ave to spend at least a half hour in Task Scheduler, services, system settings etc turning off all the unnecessary "features" that are on by default. Even with that done, the few times I've bothered to monitor it Windows seems to be constantly using my internet, into the megabytes, with nothing open, and I can't figure out why. Linux, on the other hand, is fast, elegant, simple, secure and light on resources. If it weren't for the bad Firefox accessibility I'd switch to it full-time, only running Windows in a VM. Hopefully that day will come soon. All my gripes at Microsoft aside, I am also somewhat excited about Windows 10, hopefully it will be warranted.
