I think that's been pretty well spelled out. It boils down to a difference in cultural expectations.
Let's face it, the US is far behind in many educational standards. We expect a hell of a lot less from our people than quite a few other countries do.
I'm not saying that one approach or the other is right or wrong, because this isn't the time or place to debate those sorts of things. But I think that comparing a Japanese game to an American one is like comparing a snapping turtle to a purring kitten. Both can be said to have qualities that people find intriguing, right?
