My revised schematic is below. Did I understand what you recommended
for the power supply reservoir? Two more questions:

1. I assume all of those grounds get tied together?

2. I've never used one before, but the little perforated project boards
that you can buy at Radio Shack, etc. ... the ones with lots and lots of
copper-edged holes... are you supposed to "connect the dots" to make
connections by dragging solder across them? Or are you supposed to use
bits of wire to make connections?
