You're right, and I think another aspect of it is the anonymity -
people are more willing to be rude when they are unlikely to suffer any
real repercussions, or even be identified.

This is an excellent point - now that you mention it one reason I chose
to buy a SB was the active and vocal community, as well as the open
source aspect.  It's clear you can get lots of help here if you need
it.

There was a bit of fanboy-ism being displayed towards the end, which is
another common phenomenon on boards of this type.  But all in all,
despite getting a bit off-topic (mea culpa, in part) I also thought it
was an interesting thread.
