Yes room correction appears to be the next big thing. If you are
concerned about the measurement being only at one position why not
measure at a number of positions and average it out if possible. 

Velodyne also incorporate room correction software with their Digital
Drive(DD)series of subs.

One of the problems with correcting at low frequencies is that many
mics do not do the lower frequencies well. The RC software my friends
use comes with parameter files for different microphones that adjust
the incoming signal based on the known shortcomings of the mic
itself(basically doing mic correction, before room correction).
