Nope, it would just create chaos.  It would be neat if there was an
affordable "repeater" device that would listen on, say, Channel 11, and
repeat on 1... which would give you better range.  (There are such
devices, actually, but they are spendy.)

A different antenna on the router can make a huge difference: most
devices are built with omnidirectional antennas (because no one knows
your layout), but things like the pringles can antenna are very
directional.  Think of it as a cheap dish antenna, and if your network
devices are in fixed locations you can increase your signal quality a
ton.
