But we're talking about vinyl here, which is not really much of a challenge. I'd suggest that a Lucid AD9624, which can be had for under a grand, is easily good enough to transparently cope with anything that comes off a turntable. Probably even an old M-Audio Flying Calf would do fine. (And I say this as a user of a Linn LP12/Lingo/Ittok/Karma - it's not as if I don't appreciate decent vinyl replay).
Contrast this to the price of the ATC SCA2 preamp, which costs about £4,000. I don't really have an "obsession" about eliminating the preamp. I just happen to think that it's worth doing if you can't afford the mega-price of a genuinely transparent preamp. I ditched a £2,500 preamp once I heard the improvement gained by removing it from the system. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A ------------------------------------------------------------------------ cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33868
