I haven't completely scanned this thread (already 9 pages long...) so you may already know this.
German "Audio" magazine has compared exactly on topic: Linn Klimax DS vs. Slimdevices Transporter. "Audio" uses a sound point scale where "100" is already considered excellent (true High End) and the very best CD source on earth got 140. Network clients so far stayed in the 70-90 region. Slimdevices and Linn both got excellent ratings high in the 100 points: - Slimdevices Transporter: 110 - Linn Klimax DS: 140 !!!
