This project was in my head for years (since the previous speaker set), but it was jump started when I found a discharged 18 PVC pipe on a construction site ($17 to remove it from their hands). The principles behind the design are: - Minimum diffraction -> zero baffle. - Minimum typical resonances -> no parallel surfaces. - Maximum dampening -> no passive crossover, good drivers (big magnet ). - Maximum dispersion (open soundstage) -> zero baffle, low crossover frequencies (24 db/octave) - Phase alignment -> 24db active crossover - Flat extended response -> tunable active crossover - Serious dynamic -> tri-amps for a total of 380W / ch on 8 ohm Drivers: - Tweeter: Scan-speak D2905/9300 - Mid: Audax HM130Z10 - Woofer SEAS L26RFX/P (H1209) 10" Aluminum Cone The result blows away my traditional generation 4 tower speakers. Comparatively speaking is like having removed the mud from the sound. The active crossover is great for DIYer (it took me months to fine tune it ). Tri-amps sound is simply effortless.
