You're going to get a get a few comments about this, but for starters...the internal PSU arrangements of the SB are such that plugging in a mega-bucks PSU such as the Wellbourne is not going to make any real difference over the Farnell unit, since regardless of the external PSU the internal regs wil "take over". That's been my experience anyway.
The stock PSU does radiate RF which CAN upset some other gear - sure messes up my AM radio!. The Farnell etc do not do this. I wonder if the Sugden is susceptible to RF...? I notice you are not using an external DAC. You should investigate an alternate avenue, namely a DAC, plus something like the Farnell for the SB. "Sorting out the mains" is a good idea. However, you do not need to spend the earth to do so... 1) The mains socket on the wall is the first place to look - try a Russ Andrews replacement. 2) RA IEC Powercords - the basic ones - (there are alternatives) are good enough for most systems IMHO. 3) Some kind of noise filter (eg RA Silencer...again there are others) MAY be worthwhile, but I advise trying them first as they are very system/house dependant IMHO. 4) Silver plated fuses are worthwhile as they corrode more slowly than normal ones. This is a cheap "tweak". I presume that you are using a lossless format for ripping/playing? ...and that you have replaygain disabled...and that you have the SB volume on full (or at least over say 80%). Regards Phil PS You will need an external DAC to outperform the Creek IMHO. PPS Most shops don't understand (or acknowledge) the capabilities of hard-disk based solutions to outperform modest-to-exotic disc spinners...yet. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... ...SB3+TACT+Altmann+MF DACXV3/Linn tri-amped Aktiv 5.1 system and some very expensive cables ;o) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Phil Leigh's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=85 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40737 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
