If your system is like mine, you will find that this subtle effect you are describing, is alleviated by using a digital device like the GW Labs DSP. Works great between my SB3 and DAC, and I think that among other things, it might be the pulse-transformer isolation the DSP provides on both the digital input AND the digital output.
