If you go with a Duet or SB Classic, you might be perfectly satisfied. They sound pretty good.
If it isn't good enough, a DAC Magic will elevate the quality considerably. I could not be happier with my Duet and Dac Magic. The transporter may be better, but my investment of $350 for a Duet plus $400 for the Dac Magic is a far cry from $1250 for a used Transporter or $2K for a new one. That's all money I can spend on other improvements in my system.
