It's a head vs. heart kind of thing. The head says “buy the ‘lesser’
SB” because:

- May be sufficient by itself
- Learn the issues with interfacing computer based audio with analogue
downstream
- Upgrade with a DAC later, if necessary
- Given that more & more of our music is going to come to us as bits &
bytes, it makes sense to have a standalone DAC
- Mitigates risk (less investment)

whereas the heart says “buy the TP” because

- ‘Lesser’ SB probably won’t (ultimately) be satisfying in audio terms
- May as well learn the issues with the kit you’re going to live with
- By all accounts the DAC in the TP is pretty darned good anyway
- Standalone DAC! No! Extra boxes, cables, S/PDIF, power
cords/supplies...
- It costs much more, but it’s really good value compared with x, y &
z

As audiophiles are such rational beings, we’d all make the “head’
decision, right?

The good news is that given the experiences of everyone who’s
responded, neither is a “wrong” decision.

Hmmm...
