Once again thanks for the insightful replies everyone. I guess Phil's summary is accurate - things do sound lifeless after making the room bigger. And in response to all, yes I do have the space for floorstanders, and I guess the general consensus is that floorstanders would be a more effective option in my price range than active speakers.
