Try a book or something free to see whether the general effect is worthwhile. Then you could have a look at Auralex MoPads, used the 'wrong' way round - they'll give you a little possibly useful decoupling from your shelf as well as a tilt. But it's not much more to get adjustable speaker brackets - do a google for PMC BRKT-DB1 to see PMCs offering - or just click this:
