Well, we've had the Cyrus for nearly three weeks now, and love it! Every
day we'll rediscover some piece of music anew, finding details we'd not
really noticed before. I was pretty happy with the Arcams, but the
Cyrus is something else... I remember the wonderful change in quality
when we added the 290P and bi-amped the speakers; well, this is the
same again.

It's not all roses: some older recordings and even some 2000s-era
remasters aren't scaling up to the same degree, and suffer by
comparison. The mid-2000s reissue of Depeche Mode's Songs of Faith and
Devotion now sounds quite muddy next to something like I Am Kloot's Sky
At Night (which we were surprised to rediscover was actually mp3, albeit
high-bitrate).

I think I prefer the Transporter's DAC over the Cyrus Qx; but it's a
little hard to be certain, as the Transporter's audio feed is decidedly
louder than the Qx. It's possible to tune the amp's sensitivity for each
input, but I haven't got round to balancing them all yet. The Qx is
still useful for some of the other inputs (especially our Virgin Media
V+ box, which only has an optical output), and I wonder how SACDs will
sound from our Blu-Ray player (though it wasn't bought with that in
mind so I'm not expecting too much).

The main problem I'm having now is that it's difficult to listen to
music quietly - both in the sense that it feels like a waste, and in
that transients can be surprisingly loud. So now I'm wondering about
getting a decent set of headphones for late-night listening...
